Scaling and Root Planing

This is commonly known as “deep cleanings.” Scaling and root planing removes the calculus which is mineralized bacteria stuck to the teeth. The calculus causes the gums to bleed as well as allowing the bacteria to eat away at the bone surrounding the teeth. An antibiotic wash is done in conjunction with scaling and root plaing.
