Whitening
Whitening is the general name given to all the cosmetic procedures that whiten the teeth. These are in - office bleaching (professional bleaching), at home bleaching and whitening toothpaste.
Veneers
Veneers are wafer–thin pieces of porcelain that are bonded onto the front side of the teeth. They represent the perfect cosmetic solution for stained, chipped or slightly misaligned teeth.
Scaling and Root Planing
This is commonly known as “deep cleanings.” Scaling and root planing removes the calculus which is mineralized bacteria stuck to the teeth. The calculus causes the gums to bleed as well as allowing the bacteria to eat away at the bone surrounding the teeth. An antibiotic wash is done in conjunction with scaling and root plaing.
Root Canals
Root canals are done when the decay caused from bacteria on a tooth reaches the nerve of the tooth causing the patient pain. The nerve is removed, cleaned and shaped and filled.
Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and Onlays are commonly known as partial crowns. They are used as a stronger option to a filling and a more conservative restoration to a crown. They are either gold or porcelin and are fabricated by a lab.
Implants
Implants are biocompatible posts that replace missing teeth. A titanium implant is surgically placed into a patient’s jaw where the missing tooth was. After a period of healing, a crown is placed over the implant to restore the patient’s dentition.
Fillings
Fillings serve to treat cavities after removing the decayed area of the tooth. They also serve to restore cracked or fractured teeth that have been worn down from misuse. There are several types of fillings depending on the material used. Teeth can be filled with gold, porcelain, silver amalgam or plastic and glass materials called composite resin fillings.
Extractions
Extractions are the removal of one to several teeth. Teeth are removed due to extensive decay, impacted wisdom teeth or for orthodontic reasons.
Dentures
Dentures are removable substitutes for missing teeth usually made out of an acrylic resin which sometimes incorporate porcelain or metal for additional structural support. Dentures may be used to replace teeth that are missing for any reason, including injury, tooth decay or periodontal disease.
Crowns
Crowns are dental restorations that cover over and encase the teeth on which they are cemented. Crowns are made to restore broken and cracked teeth. Crowns can also be fabricated for cosmetics to enhance a patient’s smile. Crowns take two appointments to complete. The first appointment consists of preparing the patients teeth and taking an impression to send to the lab. The crown is delivered at the second appointment.
Bridges
Bridges close the gap that is created by missing teeth. Any bridge is made up of 2 crowns for the teeth on both sides of the gap and a false tooth in between. Bridges help restore a patients smile, ability to chew and help distribute the forces of mastication. Bridges generally take two appointments to complete. The first appointment consists of preparing the patients teeth and taking an impression to send to the lab to fabricate the bridge. The permanent bridge is delivered at the second appointment.
